Born in Kulai, Johor, Malaysia on February 26, 1986, Mandopop singer and actress Cheng Koon Si is better known by her stage name Queenzy Cheng. Her musical output spans several genres including classical, pop, and musical theater. While she’s achieved great success as a member of girl group M-Girls, her solo career began several years before when she began releasing a series of Chinese New Year albums. In 1995, at the age of eight years old, she released her debut album, Selling Wontons, which mixed Malaysian folk and pop. Over the next five years, she released an additional 13 Chinese New Year albums before co-founding girl group M-Girls. An extremely successful venture, M-Girls became one of the best-selling groups in Malaysia, earning platinum sales status in the process. Between 2000 and 2017, Queenzy Cheng balanced her solo career with M-Girls’ output, releasing a great variety of music and appealing to different generations of Malaysian music fans. In 2017, the members of M-Girls decided to take an indefinite hiatus and refocused on their solo careers. While Queenzy Cheng’s pop recordings were extremely popular, she continued her series of Chinese New Year releases including 2021’s Happy Niu Year. At the beginning of 2022, she released the disco-influenced single “The Big Reunion”. Over the years, Queenzy Cheng has also collaborated with many artists including Tom Change, Wei Wei, John Wee, Tedd Chan, Crystal Ong, Veron Lin, and many others.
