Redbone

Formed in Fresno, California (USA), in 1969 by Pat and Lolly Vega, Tony Bellamy and Pete DePoes, Redbone is a Native American band best known for the hit "Come and Get Your Love" (1974). Encouraged by Jimi Hendrix, he reunited the two brothers who had played in the film It's a Bikini World (1965). After a first single , "Maggie", taken from the first double album Redbone (1970), followed by Potlatch the same year, the title track "Witch Queen of New Orleans" enjoyed some disco success. The third album, distributed under this name in Europe, is entitled Message from a Drum in the US. The rock band's music incorporates jazz, funk and traditional Indian rhythms. After the politically committed "We Were All Wounded at Wounded Knee" (1973), a hit only in Europe and controversial in the U.S., Redbone's American breakthrough came with "Come and Get Your Love", which reached No. 5 on the Billboard charts and went platinum. The band, which underwent a few changes along the way, continued to perform and record throughout the 1980s and following decades, despite the departure of Lolly Vegas after a heart attack (he died in 2010) and the death of Tony Bellamy in 2009. In 2008, he was inducted into the Native American Music Awards Hall of Fame. Still active with Pat Vegas at the helm, Redbone returned to the news in 2014 with his hit "Come and Get Your Love", included on the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack, which reached number one. The track re-enters the American and European charts, notably in France where it is used in a commercial, while the compilation The Very Best of Redbone, originally released in 1991, re-emerges.
