An enigmatic amalgamation of elegant pop and left-leaning R&B, Rhye was initially a collaborative project between Canadian musician Mike Milosh and Danish multi-instrumentalist Robin Hannibal, who got acquainted with each other through their common record label. In 2010, the pair met at Hannibal’s studio Copenhagen and began working together on a handful of tracks. The fruit of their joint labor saw the light in 2012 in the form of two singles: “Open” and “The Fall,” which were posted online with no additional information whatsoever, shrouding the band in a veil of mystery. Their full-length debut, Woman, arrived in 2013 and reached Number 55 on the Billboard 200, prompting a world tour throughout Europe, North America, South America, Asia, and Australia. After Hannibal’s departure in 2017, Milosh carried the project’s torch with Blood (2018) and Spirit (2019), a more minimalistic affair that featured contributions by Ólafur Arnalds and Dan Wilson. Preceded by the 2020 singles “Beautiful,” “Helpless,” and “Black Rain,” a third album titled Home arrived in the first months of 2021.
