Born on August 29, 1974, in Faridabad, Haryana, India, Richa Sharma is an award-winning playback and devotional singer. She began her vocal training performing Indian classical and light music before enhancing her skills as a singer by performing Punjabi and Rajasthani folk songs as well as ghazals and film songs. In 1994, she relocated to Mumbai and sang cover versions while trying to start her career as a Bollywood playback singer. Richa Sharma finally made her Bollywood debut in 1997 when she sang “Mohabbat Aisi Mehndi Hai” for the film Salma Pe Dil Aa Gaya. Her breakthrough hit came in 1999 with A. R. Rahman’s “Ni Main Samajhh Gayi” (from the film Taal). She followed that with other Bollywood hits including “Tun Tunak Tun” (from 2000’s Hera Pheri), “Chhodo More Baiyyan” (from 2001’s Zubeidaa), and “Chhalka, Chhalka Re” (from 2002’s Saathiya). In 2003, Richa Sharma won the Bollywood Movie Award for Best Female Playback Singer for “Mahi Ve” (from 2002’s Kaante). She also won the Zee Cine Award for Best Female Playback Singer in 2011 for the song “Sajda” (from 2010’s My Name is Khan). Other popular songs by Richa Sharma include “Ek Rub Sach Hai”(from 2006’s Pyare Mohan), “Show Me Your Jalwa” (from 2007’s Aaja Nachle), “Fariyaad Hai” (from 2010’s Mr. Singh Mrs Mehta), “Full Volume” (from 2011’s Thank You), “Lazy Lad” (from 2013’s Ghanchakkar), “Holi” (from 2018’s Padmaavat), and “Babul” (from 2022’s Dhaakad). She has also released several albums under her own name including 2011’s Sai Ki Tasveer, her first Saibaba devotional album. Richa Sharma has made many television appearances during her career including stints as a judge on talent shows including Joe Jeet Wohi Super Star, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2018, and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2022.
