Richard Dawson

Born on 24 May 1981 in Newcastle upon Tyne, Richard Dawson is a British singer-songwriter known for his distinctive voice and progressive folk-led musical style. He emerged on the UK music scene in the early 2010s with a blend of folk, experimental rock, and avant-garde elements. His music often delves into personal and societal themes, exploring everything from mental health to historical events, all while challenging traditional genre boundaries. His work is marked by its raw emotional depth and unorthodox vocal delivery, which ranges from tender to hauntingly intense. His albums, such as Nothing Important (2014), Peasant (2017), and 2020 (2020), have garnered critical acclaim for their daring arrangements and lyrical complexity. Peasant, in particular, stands out for its blending of medieval imagery with modern anxieties, while 2020 reflects on the tumultuous nature of contemporary life, capturing a sense of urgency and disillusionment. In 2021, he collaborated with Finnish experimental rock band Circle on the Henki album. His critically acclaimed eighth solo album, End of the Middle, came out in 2025 and was co-produced with Sam Grant.
