Revealed by the Woodstock festival and a stunning third album, Mixed Bag, two years earlier in 1967, Richie Havens was one of the rare examples of a black singer inspired by committed folk, with a highly percussive style and a powerful voice. Present alongside his master Bob Dylan at the latter's 30th anniversary concert in 1992, he bounced back in 2008 with Nobody Left to Crown, his final album before a fatal heart attack on April 22, 2013.
