Rise of the Northstar's unique brand of metalcore is influenced by punk, heavy metal, rap-rock, hip-hop, and Japanese pop culture. The band was founded by vocalist Vithia in 2008 in Paris, France. Vithia named the group after the Japanese manga series Fist of the North Star and furthered the band's connections to Japan by naming the band's debut EP Tokyo Assault. Arriving in 2010, Tokyo Assault was followed two years later by Demonstrating My Saiya Style, with both EPs being released by the band's original label, Akatsuki Records. Rise of the Northstar partnered with the German label Nuclear Blast for the release of the band's full-length debut album, Welcame, in 2014. Although Welcame reached Number 192 in Belgium, 2018's The Legacy of Shi proved to be the band's genuine international breakthrough, reaching Number 82 in France, Number 32 in Germany, Number 81 in Switzerland, and Number 32 on the UK Rock & Metal Albums chart. A concept album about demonic possession, The Legacy of Shi was followed by another EP, 2020's Live in Paris, which highlighted the band's reputation as a must-see live act. Three years later, Rise of the Northstar released a third album, Showdown, which reached Number 16 on France's Top 200 Albums Physical Sales chart in April 2023.
