The story of RNDM goes back to 1999, when Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament met singer-songwriter Joseph Arthur at a concert. The two men kept in touch and met again in 2011 during the PJ20 World Tour, celebrating Pearl Jam's twenty-year career. They decided to try out a few things together during a jam session with drummer Richard Stuverud, a veteran of the Seattle scene and friend of Jeff Ament. RNDM was born, and with it the album Acts resulting from these sessions, released in October 2012 in the US and in December in France.
