If the fame of musicians were to be measured by their influence on their contemporaries and future generations, then Roy Harper would be one of the most prominent songwriters, composers and performers. As fate would have it, this Englishman, orphaned by his mother in 1941, is celebrated only by his peers and fans of folk music, which he helped to develop with major albums such as Stormcock (1971), Lifemask (1973), HQ (1975) and Bullinamingvase (1977), featuring Paul and Linda McCartney. A guest on Led Zeppelin ("Hats Off to (Roy) Harper") and Pink Floyd albums, and cited as a benchmark of modern folk, Roy Harper continued to record regularly. The albums Work of Heart (1982), Whatever Happened to Jugula? (1985) with Jimmy Page and Death or Glory? (1992) bear witness to his renewed inspiration. Stimulated by the creation of his own Science Friction label, Roy Harper reissued his discography, recording The Dream Society (1998) and The Green Man (2000). After a decade of silence, in 2013 he released an album that lived up to his reputation, Man & Myth.
