The brainchild of singer and songwriter Ryan Santiago (born on May 25th, 1994 in New Jersey), LA-based alt-pop project Royal & the Serpent launched herself on the scene in 2017 with a debut single, "Temperance". A second single arrived in 2018, "Together", and a collaboration with producer Tommee Profitt followed that same year. She was signed to Atlantic Records in 2019 and dropped her first major-label single in 2020, "Overwhelmed", with a debut EP, Get a Grip, also surfacing that year. Recalling the genre-blending demeanor of Gen Z popstars like Olivia Rodrigo and Kid Laroi, her 2021 EP searching for nirvana took a kaleidoscopic trip through pop-punk, country, electro-pop, and other styles and featured the hit single "Overwhelmed", which soared to number 6 on Billboard's Alternative Airplay chart as well as receiving gold status in Canada. In 2021, she also received a profile boost after featuring on the digital download and streaming version of Gayle's smash-hit single "ABCDEFU". Her third EP as Royal & the Serpent, If I Died Would Anyone Care, landed in January 2022.
