The Canadian singer/songwriter Ruby Waters was born in Shelburne, Ontario, on July 20, 1997. She was raised by musical parents who toured Canada as members of a country band throughout Waters' childhood. Introduced to the music industry at a young age, she began busking as a teenager and performed in bars before she could legally drink. Along the way, she established her own musical blend of folk, indie pop, and rock. Her debut single "Sweet Sublime" was released in 2018 and went viral on Reddit, resulting in millions of digital streams and a rapidly expanding audience. The singles "Last Cigarette" and "Supernatural" followed in 2019, with both songs also appearing on her debut album, Almost Naked. Ruby Waters supported Almost Naked's 2019 release by touring as City and Colour's opening act, then returned to the recording studio to complete her second project, 2020's If It Comes Down To It. She released a number of standalone singles and one-off collaborations during the following two years, with highlights including the Canadian radio single "Blow" as well as the rap collaboration "Jungle" with DillanPonders. Two years after its release, If It Comes Down To It was nominated for "Alternative Album of the Year" at the 2022 Juno Awards. One year later, her song "Flash Flood" reached Number 43 on Canada's Top 100 Rock Songs chart.
