Son of singer and actor Mario Da Vinci, Salvatore Michael Sorrentino aka Sal Da Vinci was born on April 7, 1969 in New York, during his father's American tour, accompanied by his wife. He was immersed in the music scene from childhood, performing a series of duets with his father from 1976 until 1983, before going solo under the same stage name. He also began a career in film as an actor, then as a composer. In 1982, he released his first solo album, a collection of Neapolitan songs entitled 'O Guappo nnammurato, before starring in the musical film Il motorino (1984), between two stage appearances. He then turned his attention to music with his second album Sal Da Vinci (1994), winning first prize at the Italian Music Festival with one of his songs, "Vera". After singing before Pope John Paul II in 1995, Sal Da Vinci produced the album Un po' di noi (1996), then signed with EMI for Solo (1998). Returning to the stage in L'Opera buffa del Giovedi Santo in 2000, he acted and sang on stage for two years, and from 2002 to 2007 followed this up with the highly successful musical C'era una volta... Scugnizzi. Meanwhile, in 2005, he resumed his solo career with a series of albums combining pop and Neapolitan chanson, including Canto per amore (2008), Non riesco a farti innamorare (2009), Il mercante di stelle (2010) and É cosí che gira il mondo (2012). In 2009, he took part in the Sanremo Festival with the song "Non riesco a farti annamorare", written by Vincenzo D'Agostino and Gigi D'Alessio, which came third, and then continued to alternate between his solo career and musical shows, also appearing on collective studio recordings. He performs in the musicals Stelle a metà (2014-2016), Italiano di Napoli (2016-2018), Sinfonie in Sal Maggiore (2018-2019) and La fabbrica dei sogni (2019-2022), between sessions for the personal albums Se amore è (2014), Non si fanno prigionieri (2016) and Siamo gocce di mare (2021). In 2024, the track "Rossetto e caffè" became a hit on social networks, reaching No. 3 in the Italian charts.
