Born in Chicago, Illinois on January 13, 1987, Same Dew is a hip-hop and R&B singer/songwriter best known for writing the hook to Wale’s 2013 hit “LoveHate Thing”. He came to prominence as a member of Atlanta, Georgia-based band Cloudeater and appeared on their albums Sun and Sidearm (2011) and Purge (2013) before pursuing a career as a songwriter. While still a member of Cloudeater, his first foray as a songwriter for an outside artist was Wale’s 2011 single “Lotus Flower Bomb”, which rose to Number 1 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart. Sam Dew wrote the hook to Wale’s 2013 hit “LoveHate Thing” and co-wrote Skrillex’s 2014 single “Stranger”. Sam Dew signed with RCA Records in 2015, releasing the Dave Sitek-produced EP Damn Sue that same year. He co-written songs for pop, R&B, and hip-hop artists including Rihanna, Mary J. Blige, Taylor Swift, Marsha Ambrosius, and Jessie Ware. In 2021, Sam Dew released his debut album, Moonlit Fools, which was followed by his acclaimed guest appearance on Kendrick Lamar’s “Savior” (with Baby Keem), which was taken from Kendrick’s album Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers.
