Sean Roldan – born Raghavendra Raja Rao On December 27, 1987, in Chennai, India – is a playback singer, songwriter, music director and composer best known for his work in Tamil cinema (aka Kollywood). He began his career performing Carnatic music – a subgenre of Indian classical music – before forming his own band, Sean Roldan & Friends and integrating himself into the independent Tamil-language music scene. When Kollywood director Varun Manian was in need of a film composer, producer C. V. Kumar recommended Sean Roldan and the musician’s career in Tamil cinema was set in motion. His first job as composer and singer was for 2014’s bilingual film Vaayai Moodi Pesavum / Samsaaram Aarogyathinu Haanikaram. Other films he worked on that year included Sathuranga Vettai, Mundasupatti, and Aadama Jaichomada. He composed music for other films including 144 (2015), Joker (2016), Pa Paandi (2017), Katha Nayagan (2017), Mehandi Circus (2019), Dharala Prabhu (2020), Jai Bhim (2021), and Parai (2022). As a playback singer, he also performed songs that he didn’t compose including “Ettanai Kaalam” (from 2018’s LKG), “Pookalin Porvai” (from 2020’s Ponmagal Vandhal), and “Dracula Chellakkutti” (from 2021’s Choo Mandhirakaali).
