Şebnem Ferah, born on April 12, 1972, in Yalova, Turkey, to ethnic Turkish parents from Skopje, North Macedonia, is a celebrated Turkish singer, songwriter, composer, and guitarist. Initially, she was the lead vocalist for the all-female hard rock band Volvox until 1994, before embarking on a successful solo career, blending pop rock with a dominant hard rock influence in her later works. Ferah's musical journey began with lessons from her father and evolved during her time at Namık Sözeri Highschool in Bursa, where she formed her first band, Pegasus, and later Volvox during her university days. Despite dropping out from Middle East Technical University to focus on music, she gained recognition and launched her solo career with her debut album Kadın in 1996, which was a hit and featured notable songs like "Vazgeçtim Dünyadan" and "Yağmurlar." Her subsequent albums, including Artık Kısa Cümleler Kuruyorum (1999), Perdeler (2001) and Kelimeler Yetse (2003), showcased a shift towards a more acoustic sound, though her later works, like Can Kırıkları (2005) and Benim Adım Orman (2009), leaned heavily into rock. Her continued evolution in music was marked by her latest album Parmak İzi released in 2018.
