Sergio Vega, also known as "El Shaka," is a Mexican singer in the Regional Mexican genre. He was born on September 12, 1969, in Sonora, Mexico. He developed an interest in music very early, moving to the US at age 19 and performing with his brothers Jesus and Ramon across various local events. The trio formed the group Los Hermanos Vega in 1989 and went on to achieve success with hit Norteño songs such as "Corazón de Oropel" and "El Rayo de Sinaloa." In 1994, the trio returned to Mexico as Los Reyes del Norte and gained further popularity. Vega adopted the nickname El Shaka, inspired by the name of the Zulu warrior. The group took on the name Sergio Vega y Sus Shakas del Norte, and they received acclaim with hits such as "Pase y Pase" and "Siluetas de Cristal." In 2004, Sergio Vega released the album Me Gusta Estar Contigo, which served as a comeback after a brief period away from music. Over the next few years, "El Shaka" won two Billboard Awards in 2006 and continued releasing successful albums such as Necesito Dueña (2006), Cuando el Sol Salga al Revés (2007), and Quién Es Usted (2009), whose title track solidified his position within the banda subgenre. On June 26, 2010, just a few months after releasing his album Millonario de Amor, he was shot dead by a man in Los Mochis, Sinaloa.
