Set It Off

Heavily inspired by emo and pop-punk, Set It Off formed in 2008 in Tampa, Florida. The band's frontman, Cody Carson, had already built an audience on his YouTube page, and the group expanded that audience with a series of independently-released EPs like 2008's Baby, You Don't Tripajaharda and 2009's Calm Before the Storm before signing with the punk label Equal Vision Records in 2011. Cinematics, Set It Off's full-length debut album, followed in 2012, featuring the gold-certified single "Partners in Crime." The album reached number 174 on the Billboard 200 and number 4 on the Heatseekers Albums chart. Set If Off earned another gold-selling hit with "Wolf In Sheep's Clothing," a track from 2014's Duality. Featuring dance-pop textures and R&B influences, Duality widened the band's sound considerably, reaching number 86 on the Billboard 200 along the way. Bassist Austin Kerr left the group one year later, and lineup changes continued as Set It Off released albums like 2016's Upside Down (which marked their career-wide peak on the Billboard 200, hitting number 51), 2019's Midnight (which doubled as their debut for Fearless Records), and 2022's Elsewhere (which found the band working together as a trio, following the departure of co-founding member Dan Clermont). After years of sonic evolution, Set If Off announced a decision to return to the band's pop-punk roots with its next album. The group introduced this back-to-basics approach with singles like 2023's "Punching Bag" and 2024's "Fake Ass Friends," two commercial hits that reached numbers 26 and 31, respectively, on the Mainstream Rock chart.
