Born in Kuwait on September 5th, 1997, Mishary bin Rashid Al Afasy is a Qari and Nasheed artist mostly known in the Islamic world for his Holy Quran recitations. After memorizing the Quran in its entirety between 1992 and 1994, he started studying the qira’at and tafsir at the Islamic University of Medina. Eventually, Al Afasy went on to become the imam at Kuwait’s Grand Mosque, where he leads the taraweeh prayers every year. His recording career started in 2004, with Ouyoun Al-Afaeey, followed by Hanini in 2006. The latter included his interpretation of “Tala' al Badru 'Alayna,” one of Al Afasy’s best known songs. In 2008, he received the first Arab Creativity Oscar by the Arab Creativity Union in Egypt. Anaqeed 2 (2010) included Al Afasy’s rendition of “Ramadan,” which was recorded in Arabic, English, and French. Two years later, he was voted Best Quran Reciter at the About.com Readers’ Choice Awards. Apart from his music career, Al Afasy is the owner and creator of Al Afasy TV, a religious channel especially dedicated to Islam, and has over 3 million subscribers on his YouTube channel.
