Shel

Hailing from Fort Collins, Colorado, the folk band SHEL consists of four Holbrook sisters: Sarah, Hannah, Eve, and Liza. The daughters of musician Andrew Holbrook developed their musical skills early, each gaining a command of several different instruments, and played in their father’s band. In 2005, the quartet struck out on their own taking the name of their new group from the first letter of each member’s name. A series of independently released EPs led to attention from major labels, but the independent minded foursome wanted more control over their sound as well as their image and business practices. A hands-on affair for all of sisters, they maintained control of all aspects of their career from advertising to their graphic design to their music videos. Their self-titled 2012 debut album included a pair of songs, “The Wise Old Owl” and “On My Way”, that gained exposure when they were utilized in two different television programs. Their 2016 release Just Crazy Enough was produced by Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics and featured a poppier sound. In 2020 they released the single “Rainbow” which was inspired by a trip Eva Holbrook took to India and her discovery of the plight of widowed women in that country.
