Doubling their talents to build a soul-funk powerhouse, Silk Sonic is Bruno Mars (born Peter Gene Hernandez on 8 October 8, 1985 in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA) and Anderson .Paak (born Brandon Park Anderson on February 8, 1986 in Oxnard, California, USA): two modern R&B superstars united under one roof. Officially forming in 2017, the super duo met while touring and working alongside each other on the production for Chic's album at Abbey Road Studios in London. Silk Sonic announced their arrival with the promotional single "Silk Sonic Intro" in March 2021 and released their debut single, the buttery smooth retro-tinged soul soother "Leave the Door Open," that same month. The hit tipped its hat to quiet storm and 1970s Philadelphia soul and shot to Number 1 in various countries, including the US, Malaysia, New Zealand, and Israel. Silk Sonic performed "Leave the Door Open" at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards and a follow-up single, "Skate," arrived in July that same year. Written by Bruno Mars, Brandon Anderson (aka Anderson .Paak), Dernst Emile II, James Fauntleroy, Domitille Degalle and JD Beck, with production from Bruno Mars and D'Mile, the track went to Number 14 in the US. Both singles are featured on the band's luxurious debut album, An Evening with Silk Sonic, which landed in November 2021 and hit the global chart jackpot, cashing in at Number 2 in the US and hitting the Top 10 in seven other countries, including the UK, where it went to Number 9.
