A Swedish rapper known for her politically-charged protest songs, Silvana Imam was born on September 19, 1986, in PlungÄ—, Lithuania. The daughter of Syrian and Lithuanian refugees, she moved to Stockholm as a child and eventually became one of Sweden's most celebrated hip-hop acts, known for creating music that railed against racism, homophobia, and neo-Nazism. Her debut album, Rekviem, was released in 2013, while her breakthrough single "IMAM" climbed to Number One on the Swedish charts in 2014. The follow-up albums Naturkraft (2016) and Helig Moder (2019) both peaked within the Top 20, reinforcing Imam's popularity not only as a Swedish gay icon, but as a mainstream force in international hip-hop, too.
