Silvestre Dangond

One of the lead exponents of the new wave of vallenato, Colombian singer-songwriter Silvestre Dangond was born in Urumita, La Guajira, on May 12, 1980. The son of vallenato musician William José "El Palomo" Dangond Baquero, he was encouraged to become a musician from a very young age. After graduating high school, he teamed up with accordionist Ramón López and began playing at local parties and venues before releasing his studio debut Tanto Para Ti in 2002. The following year, he struck up a friendship with accordion player Juancho De la Espriella, kickstarting a successful songwriting partnership that rose to national fame with albums like Lo Mejor Para los Dos (2003), Más Unidos Que Nunca (2004), Ponte a la Moda (2005), La Fama (2006), El Original (2008), Cantinero (2010), and the diamond-selling No Me Compares con Nadie (2011). Released in 2013, his ninth album La 9a Batalla reached Number 1 in Colombia and cracked the Top 10 of Billboard's US Tropical Albums chart. Over the next few years, Silvestre Dangond continued to put a modern twist on the vallenato genre with the help of his cousin, accordion player Jorge Lucas Dangond, who appeared on the albums Sigo Invicto (2014), Gente Valiente (2017), Esto Es Vida (2018), and Las Locuras Mías (2020).
