Sinitta

Strutting her stuff to high energy, dance pop, Sinitta took the British charts by storm in the 1980s with a succession of hits, but became more famous as Simon Cowell's assistant on the X Factor. The daughter of Canadian actress and disco singer Miquel Brown, Sinitta grew up in foster care in Seattle before moving to London as a teenager to study at the Russian ballet school Legat and dance in West End musicals such as Cats. She dated David Essex and a young Brad Pitt, and became Simon Cowell's first signing to his label Fanfare Records, which launched her into the charts with the Number 2 hit So Macho. She followed it up with the Stock, Aitken and Waterman produced single Toy Boy and scored two more UK Top 10s with Cross My Broken Heart and Right Back Where We Started From. Sinitta's pop stardom dwindled in the 1990s and a comeback in the 2000s faltered, but her celebrity rose again in 2004 when she started working on the TV show X Factor as a mentor to the acts. She was subsequently recognised as a television personality in her own right, appearing as a contestant on the Dancing On Ice, a judge on Grease Is The Word and a panelist on chat show Loose Women.
