Sissel Kyrkjebø, known only by her first name Sissel, adopted as her stage name, is a Norwegian crossover singer born in Bergen on June 24, 1969. With her soprano timbre, she has achieved international fame with a highly varied repertoire, ranging from Scandinavian folk songs and Christmas carols to opera arias and sacred arias, as well as traditional and modern pop, which she can perform in several languages including Swedish, English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Japanese, Russian and others. After her debut with the Noahs Ark label, with the albums Sissel (1986) and Glade Jul (1987), her reputation grew with her participation in international film soundtrack projects such as The Little Mermaid and Titanic , and invitations to sporting and cultural events. After the album Gift of Love (1992), the singer signed with the Mercury label and scored a big hit with her cover of the Ole Paus song "Innerst i sjelen", which opened the album of the same name. That same year, Sissel sang the Olympic anthem at the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics, before taking part with Plácido Domingo and Charles Aznavour in the Christmas in Vienna concert. Her duets with international stars such as José Carreras, Andrea Bocelli, Bryn Terfel, Josh Groban, Neil Sedaka, Mario Frangoulis, Russell Watson, Brian May, Tommy Körberg, Diana Krall, Warren G, Dee Dee Bridgewater and The Chieftains brought her international fame. Nominated for a Grammy Award in 2007 for her collaboration with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, she has racked up gold and platinum records with All Good Things (2000), In Symphony (2002), My Heart (2003), Into Paradise (2005), Northern Lights (2007) and Strålande jul (2009), with Odd Nordstoga, which sold 11 million copies. This is followed in 2010 by ...Til Deg... and the 5-CD boxed set Reflections (2020).
