Sivert Høyem

Born on 22 January 1976 in Sortland, Norway, Sivert Høyem rose to fame as the lead singer of bluesy alt-rock band Madrugada, releasing five albums in the late 1990s and naughties before they split up following the death of guitarist and songwriter Robert Burås in 2008 (later reuniting in 2008). He began his solo career in 2004 with the album Ladies and Gentlemen of the Opposition, landing the number three spot in Norway. His next four albums all went to number one—Moon Landing (2009), Long Slow Distance (2011), Endless Love (2014), and Lioness (2016)—while his Nordic noir-primed music has felt ripe for television dramas, with "Black & Gold" featured as the opening song of the Norwegian TV show Okkupert in 2015. He unleashed a live record in 2017—Live at Acropolis – Herod Atticus Odeon, Athens while his next album of original solo material, On an Island—recorded in the coastal fishing village of Nyksund, Norway—arrived in January 2024.
