Skunk Anansie

Skunk Anansie was born in London in 1994. Led by shaven-headed singer Skin, the punk- and heavy-metal-influenced band drew attention with their debut album Paranoid & Sunburnt, released the following year. Their energetic, committed alternative rock, steeped in blues, funk and dub roots, proved a hit with a number of emblematic tracks, from Stoosh (1996) to the more experimental Post Orgasmic Chill (1999). Despite intensive touring, the English band left the American public in its wake. Split up in 2001, Skunk Anansie reunited in 2009 - after a solo episode by Skin - for a tour in support of the Greatest Hits compilation. As determined as ever, Skin led his three musicians on the comeback album Wonderlustre (2010), followed two years later by Black Traffic, with Shaka Ponk contributing a track. After the death of drummer Robbie France on January 14, 2012, the band continued with An Acoustic Skunk Anansie - Live in London (2013), followed by the sixth album Anarchytecture (2016) and a six-month tour. Returning in 2018 with 25Live@25, to celebrate their quarter-century of existence, Skunk Anansie immediately set off on the European road again, then took a long break until the release in 2025 of a new studio album entitled The Painful Truth.
