Smokepurpp is the stage name of American rapper Omar Jeffery Pineiro (May 15, 1997), who rose to fame in 2017 thanks to his track “Audi.” Born in Chicago, Illinois, he moved to Miami at the age of 3 and took up music production during high school. He is often credited with encouraging friend and future rapper Lil Pump to begin recording his own material. Frustrated because nobody purchased his beats, he began rapping under the pseudonym Smokepurpp in 2015. His early work caught the attention of Alamo and Interscope Records, who offered him a joint venture record deal in 2017. That year, Smokepurpp made his official debut with the mixtape Deadstar, which featured appearances by Chief Keef, Juicy J, and Travis Scott. It also reached Number 16 on Billboard’s Top Rap Albums chart. “Audi,” the mixtape’s lead single, managed to enter the Top 10 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and received platinum certification shortly after. Smokepurpp followed up with the Murda Beatz collaborative mixtape Bless Yo Trap (2018) and the EP Lost Planet (2019) before dropping his studio debut Deadstar 2 in late 2019. The album contained the singles “Dirty Dirty” with Lil Skies and “What I Please” featuring Denzel Curry, and placed at Number 137 on the Billboard 200. Preceded by the single “Off My Chest” with childhood friend Lil Pump, a second full-length titled Florida Jilt arrived in 2020.
