Sofia Portanet was born in Kiel, Germany, on November 9, 1989, just as the Berlin Wall fell. Born into a German-Spanish family, she grew up in Paris, where she attended a German school and joined the children's choir of the Opéra national de Paris. It wasn't until 2010 that she returned to Germany, moving to Berlin to launch her musical career. Her career took a professional turn in 2018 with the release of her first single, "Freier Geist". The track, which reveals a new wave-influenced synthpop formula, is strongly influenced by the 1980s. It gave its name to the artist's debut album, released in 2020. On this album, which includes tracks such as "Planet Mars" and "Art Deco", the singer expresses herself in German, English and French.
