Sol Gabetta

A Franco-Argentine cellist born in 1981, Sol Gabetta grew up in Spain and France before settling in Switzerland, where she teaches and founded the Solsberg Festival, dedicated to chamber music, in 2005. Winner of several competitions, she has made a meteoric rise to fame with her interpretations of the principal Cello Concertos by Haydn, Mozart, Dvorak, Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich, as well as those by contemporary composers (Bohuslav Martinu, Samuel Barber, Peteris Vasks). Winner of an ECHO Award in 2009, she devoted several opuses to Vivaldi(Il Progetto Vivaldi I, II & III) and joined forces with pianist Hélène Grimaud for the DUO recital released in 2012. Two years later, Prayer was released, inspired by Jewish songs by composers Dimitri Shostakovich, Pablo Casals and Ernest Bloch.
