Born Joseph Anthony Somers-Morales on September 11, 1987, in Austin, Texas, US, contemporary R&B and pop-rap artist SoMo dropped a mashup of Drake's Take Care in 2011 that lit up the Internet and paved the way for his debut mixtape, My Life, in 2013. Setting out his R&B and pop songwriter stall with the well-received release, he followed the mixtape with his self-titled debut album in 2014. Produced by Mick Schultz and Cody Tarpley, SoMo went to Number 6 on the Billboard 200, as well as reaching Number 2 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, and was encouraged to drop a sequel, My Life II, which he released on his birthday in 2015. His second album, The Answers, came in 2017, along with a third mixtape, My Life III. SoMo went on to release another three albums: A Beautiful November (2018), I Had Another Dream (2020), and The Duality of Man (2021). In April 2021, he enlisted the guest vocals of his daughter, Finley Grace, for "Rain," which was featured on his fifth studio album, The Duality of Man. In 2024 followed 9 Lives, the fourth album released under his own imprint.
