British-German cellist and actress Sophie Kauer was born in London, England in September 2001. She is best known for her role in the motion picture Tár, which starred Cate Blanchett in the title role. Sophie Kauer began studying the piano at the age of 8 years old and was accepted into the Junior Department of the Royal Academy of Music. After being named ‘Young Musician of the Year’ by the Woking Music Festival in 2019, she began studying at the Norwegian Academy of Music the following year. In February 2021, she did a successful online audition for a significant role in the film Tár, which was focused on the life of a female conductor / composer by the name of Lydia Tár (portrayed by Cate Blanchett). The 2022 film was a critical success and Sophie Kauer appeared on the album’s soundtrack, Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture Tár (2023). After completing her duties in promoting the film, Sophie Kauer refocused her attention on her music. In March 2023, she released the Unsung EP, a collaboration with pianist Kunal Lahiry.
