Sophie Milman is a Russian-born jazz singer who grew up in Israel and has lived in Canada since the early 1990s. Encouraged to sing by her music teacher in Toronto, she landed gigs in local venues and she released an eponymous album in 2004 that went to number 22 on Billboard's Jazz Albums Chart. She followed that in 2007 with a concert album titled 'Live at the Winter Garden Theatre' (2007) and her second studio release, 'Make Someone Happy' (2007), reached number seven on the Jazz Chart. It also won as Vocal Jazz Album of the Year in Canada's Juno Awards. Her husband Casey Chisick was executive producer on another concert release, 'Live in Montreal' (2008), and two more studio recordings. 'Take Love Easy' (2009) peaked at number 12 on the Jazz Chart and 'In the Moonlight' (2011) went to number ten. Critics have said her vocal style evokes that of Peggy Lee and the New York Times called her "a chic, sure-footed chanteuse with smouldering restraint". She has performed with artists including Charles Aznavour, Randy Bachman, the Neville Brothers and Manhattan Transfer.
