Spitz

Spitz is one of the best-selling rock bands in Japanese history. The group was formed by four university students in Tokyo, Japan, in 1987. After signing to Polydor, Spitz made its studio debut in 1991 with a self-titled album that charted at Number 60 on the Oricon Albums Chart. Mainstream success eluded Spitz until 1995, however, when the single "Robinson" reached the Top 10, remained there for more than 30 weeks, and quickly sold more than one million copies. "Robinson" became the first in a long series of successful singles for the band, followed by Number 1 hits like "空も飛べるはず," "Cherry," "Nagisa," and "Scarlett." Beginning with the album 空の飛び方, Spitz also reached the Top 5 with its next 12 records, regularly peaking at Number 1 with releases like 1995's Honey, 1997's Indigo Horizon, 2005's Souvenir Moon, and 2013's A Small Creature. More than three decades after the band's formation, Spitz remained a commercial force in 2023, when the group reached Number 2 on the Japanese charts with its seventeenth album, ひみつスタジオ.
