A comedy heavy metal band that formed to send-up the greatest and most cliched aspects of the canon, the group was formed by Ralph Saenz, Darren Leader, Travis Haley and Russ Parrish and took a variety of names before settling on Steel Panther. The band actually has its own fake history, pretending to have missed out on its big break in the 1980s and turning to playing the club shows on Sunset Strip under the name of Metal Shop. Sporting the uniform of rock dinosaurs, including huge hair, lashings of spandex and overloading on leather, the group sang about sex, drugs and rock'n'roll in their own inimitable way and developed a following as a result. With a reputation for doing great covers of the classics, their popularity grew beyond LA and Steel Panther (having changed their name from Metal Skool) managed to bag a couple of TV appearance and ad spots, finally being signed to Universal's Republic record label in May 2008. Singles Death For All But Metal and Community Property were released, just before their debut album Feel The Steel in 2009.
