Formed in Norwich, England, Sunda Arc is an electronic duo composed of brothers Nick and Jordan Smart. The Smart brothers were founders of British jazz trio Mammal Hands, who formed in 2012. After spending a few years playing avant-garde jazz with their first band, the duo decided to create Sunda Arc as a side-project to pursue their interest in minimalist techno and ambient music. Mixing post-rock, techno, neo-classical, and electronica, the Smart brothers performed Sunda Arc’s music on acoustic and electronic instruments. Their sound explored experimental, avant-garde, and techno music, creating a soundscape that was exploratory while also remaining playful and creative. They released their debut EP, Flicker, in December 2018. Sunda Arc then embarked on a series of live shows with labelmates GoGo Penguin (who have also played live with the Smart brothers’ main band Mammal Hands). Sunda Arc released their debut full-length album, Tides, in February, 2020.
