Suzi Wu

An East Londoner through and through, Suzanna Rose McDermott (born in 1998), also known as Suzi Wu, first rose to prominence thanks to her seamless amalgamation of lo-fi bedroom pop aesthetic and hip-hop bravado. She made her official debut with EP Teenage Witch (2017), whose DIY charm helped her secure a deal with legendary American label Def Jam. Shortly after, McDermott relocated to New York and released her sophomore EP, Error 404 (2019), which was produced with the help of Glass Animals’ Dave Bayley and drew comparisons to artists like M.I.A. and Santigold. During that year, she was also included in Billboard’s list of The 10 Artists You Need to Know About for the 2019 Festival Season and her single “Highway” was featured on FIFA 20’s soundtrack. Hot on the heels of Error 404’s success, McDermott started off 2020 in full force with the release of the single “Eat Them Apples,” which was featured in the reveal trailer of Apple’s iPhone 12 and was also produced by Bayley.
