Swédé Lokolé is a group of Congolese musicians who formed in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, following the civil war in their native country in the late 2000s. It was on the streets, in the ghettos, markets and other places where they could lay down their drums in Abidjan that they cut their teeth. The formula of the eight singers and musicians (Talamaku Nzinga, Anthony Nana Afful, Bertin Jean de Dieu Omo, Cyr Clotaire Ello, Abel Dibassa, Dominique Louya D., Joseph Matsimouna Math-Clotaire, Hilaire M. Coppa), mostly acoustic, is built around the rhythm of the lokolé, a Congolese drum. Adding a synthesizer and bass on stage and on record, Swédé Lokolé plays traditional music (Kasaï, Rumba, religious songs) with a funk edge. More than just musicians, they are performers who will soon be noticed by the public thanks to their dancing, make-up and on-stage sketches. They have released just three cassettes in Abidjan, the only discographic traces being the EP Malamou! and the album Wait and See, released in 2014.
