SYML

Debuting in 2016, SYML is the solo project founded by singer, songwriter and musician Brian Fennell (born January 16, 1983 in Issaquah, Washington) Fennell was previously one of the main forces behind the Seattle-based band Barcelona. At a young age, he studied piano and eventually wrote his first song at the age of 18. In 2003, Fennell began working on a solo project called Safety Songs. He gathered a group of musician friends together to back him on tour, and that inspired him to form Barcelona in 2005. Fennell broke away from Barcelona in 2016 and released Hurt for Me, the first EP under the name SYML. The band name means ‘simple’ in Welsh. SYML released their next EP, Where’s My Love, in 2017. The title track became one of their best-known recordings thanks, in part, to the use of the track in an episode of the TV series Teen Wolf and in the trailer for the 2018 motion picture Adrift. The band’s cover version of “Mr. Sandman”, originally released in 2017, was featured in the 2019 short film TIM (The Invisible Me). “Clean Eyes” was released in 2018 and reached Number 29 in the alternative chart. SYML released their self-titled debut album in 2019, followed by several EPs and the live album Sacred Spaces in 2021. The album The Day My Father Died and the EP How I Got Home followed in 2023, as well as several singles including "Please Slow Down" in 2024.
