Taeyang

Dong Young-bae, widely recognized by his stage names Taeyang and SOL, is a prominent South Korean singer, known for his remarkable career in both group and solo endeavours. Born on May 18, 1988 in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi-do, Taeyang's journey in the world of music began when he joined the immensely popular boy band BigBang in 2006. Capitalising on his fame, Taeyang released his first solo EP Hot, in 2008, which featured R&B elements and produced hits like "Only Look at Me" and "Prayer," garnering him recognition at the 7th Korean Music Awards. In 2010, Taeyang released his first full-length album, Solar, which sold out on on the first day of its release. The album topped the Gaon Album Charts and earned him the Best Male Artist award at the 2010 Mnet Asian Music Awards. Taeyang continued to be active with BigBang, contributing to EPs like Tonight (2011) and Alive (2012). He also released the solo single "Ringa Linga" in 2013, setting the stage for his successful second album, Rise (2014). The album became a monumental success, becoming the top-charting K-pop album by a solo artist on the Billboard charts. The album's hit single, "Eyes, Nose, Lips," marked Taeyang's first chart-topper on the Gaon Digital Chart and was the second best-performing single of 2014 in South Korea, earning him the Best Male Artist, Best Vocal Performance and Song of the Year at the 2014 Mnet Asian Music Awards. From 2015 to 2016, Taeyang toured extensively with BigBang, performing for millions of fans, with his third studio album, White Night, appearing the following year, featuring hits like "Darling" and "Wake Me Up." After a lengthy hiatus, Taeyang returned in 2023, with "Vibe," which topped the US World charts and reached number 4 in Korea. He also launched his EP Down to Earth, which achieved a solid number 10 on the Korean charts and maintained its presence globally throughout the year, continuing to prove his dominance as a prominent figure in the K-pop industry.
