Tania Maria, a singer and pianist from the north of France, is the instigator of Brazilian-inspired Latin jazz. She began her career in Brazil in 1969 and went on to reach international stature via France, where she settled. The album Via Brasil, Vol. 1, recorded in Paris in 1975, remains a model of her groovy style. Invited to play at the biggest festivals, Tania Maria reached her zenith in the eighties with albums such as Piquant (1980), Taurus (1981) and Come with Me (1982). Endowed with a typically Brazilian vigor, Tania Maria remains capable of excellent records after three decades of career. Viva Brazil (2000), Live at the Blue Note (2002) and Intimidade (2005) still convey the same pleasure.
