Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, a four-piece rock band from Canberra, Australia, came together in July 2015 when all five original members, including lead vocalist and bandleader Anna Ryan, lead guitarist Scarlett McKahey, drummer Neve van Boxsel, keyboardist Pip Gazard, and bassist Jaida Stephenson, were in high school. Drawing inspiration from the Riot grrrl movement and citing acts like Cherry Glazerr, Dream Wife, VOIID, and WAAX as their major influences, the band made a name for themselves as featured artists on Triple J Unearthed in 2019 with popular single "I Like That You Like That" and performing at notable events like Bigsound, Groovin' the Moo and Sydney's Laneway Festival. On February 6, 2020, they dropped new single, "Desk Chair," to critical acclaim, signing with Domestic La La the following year. Releasing their first label-backed single, "AHHHH!," on July 23, which landed at number 117 in the Triple J Hottest 200 of 2021, the group collaborated with Alex Lahey on second single "Miss Your Birthday" in November. On March 29, 2022, the band announced the release of their debut EP, Pretty Good for a Girl Band, set for May 13, which eventually earned them the Best Independent Punk Album or EP at the AIR awards. The EP's release was accompanied by edgy fan-favourite, "Girl Sports" with the band embarking on on a nationwide tour to support the EP in August 2022. In March 2023, they released "Lights Out," their first new song since the 2022 EP, followed by "Never Saw It Coming" in June. Their debut studio album, I Love You, was released on October 7, securing the sixth spot on the Australian charts.
