Temples

Temples is a modern-day psychedelic rock band from Kettering, England. The group was formed in mid-2012 by vocalist/guitarist James Bagshaw and bassist Tom Walmsley. Initially operating as a recording project, Temples signed with Heavenly Recordings and released the debut single "Shelter Song" in November 2012. Bagshaw and Walmsley then expanded Temples' membership with the addition of two members, began playing live shows, and released a second single, "Colours To Life," the following summer. Publicly championed by British icons like Oasis co-founder Noel Gallagher, Temples became the toast of the UK rock scene, and the debut album Sun Structures reached Number 7 on the UK Albums chart upon its release in 2014. Sun Structures also reached the Top 40 in Scotland, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, while peaking at Number 44 on the US Top Rock Albums chart. A second album, Volcano, followed in 2017. Like its predecessor, the self-produced Volcano was recorded at Temples' home studio, although the album notably featured a stronger emphasis on synthesizers than the band's debut. Reaching Number 23 in the UK, Number 35 in Scotland, and Number 39 in Switzerland, Volcano marked the final appearance of drummer Samuel Toms, who left the lineup in early 2018. He was replaced by Rens Ottink, who made his Temples debut on Hot Motion, the band's first record for ATO Records, in 2019. Hot Motion charted at Number 51 in the UK and was followed by a fourth LP, Exotico, in April 2023.
