Tenacious D is the brainchild of actors Jack Black and Kyle Gass who teamed up in 1994 when they wrote their future hit cult song 'Tribute'. They began performing in small venues around Los Angeles before the release of 'Tribute' gained them attention. They supported Tool and were invited by director Jason Bloom to write and perform a song for his latest film. Creating a demo out of their new music, they found themselves the subjects of a self-titled television series. Although short-lived, the series gave them opportunities which led to them appearing in Foo Fighters' video for 'Learn to Fly'. With Dave Grohl on drums, they released the albums 'Tenacious D' (2001) and 'The Pick of Destiny' (2006), with the single 'Tribute (Greatest Song in the World)' becoming their anthemic opus. They returned in 2012 for their third album 'Rize of the Fenix', followed by 'Post-Apocalypto' in 2018.
