Teresa Cristina Macedo Gomes, born on February 28, 1968, in Rio de Janeiro, is a Brazilian singer-songwriter known for her deep connection to samba music. Initially influenced by international artists like Donna Summer and Barry White, her musical direction shifted after being reintroduced to the work of Brazilian samba composer Candeia in her mid-20s. In 1995, she began gaining recognition by participating in the A Cria project in Rio de Janeiro and later in the CEP 20.000 project. She performed in various bars across Rio, particularly in the Madureira neighborhood, where she honed her craft by singing sambas from notable composers like Jair do Cavaquinho and Monarco. Her career took a significant turn in 1998 when she started performing regularly at Bar Semente in Lapa, becoming a key figure in reviving the neighborhood's musical heritage. There, she formed the group Teresa Cristina e Grupo Semente, which became known for its authentic samba performances. Throughout her career, Teresa Cristina has released several notable albums, including a tribute to Roberto Carlos in 2012, Teresa Cristina Canta Cartola in 2016, and Teresa Cristina Canta Noel in 2018. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she connected with fans through live stream performances, discussing music, politics, and more. Her contributions to Brazilian music were recognized when she was named Artist of the Year by the Associação Paulista de Críticos de Arte in 2020. In 2021, she began hosting Botequim da Teresa on the UOL portal. Over the following years, Teresa Cristina continued to perform live, sharing the stage with a whole new generation of Brazilian artists, including BK', MC Soffia, Linn da Quebrada, Kaê Guajajara, Liniker, Ludmilla, Luísa Sonza, Jorge Aragão, and Gloria Groove.
