Terri Lyne Carrington (born in Massachusetts in 1965) is one of the few female drummers in the jazz world. A student at Berklee College of Music and pupil of Tony Williams and Jack DeJohnette, she recorded her debut album TLC and Friends in 1982, before appearing on television shows The Arsenio Hall and VIBE. As attracted to funk and rock as she was to avant-garde jazz, Terri Lyne Carrington returned to the studio for Real Life Story (1988), accompanying Herbie Hancock and a myriad of other artists (Cassandra Wilson, Wayne Shorter, John Patitucci, Dianne Reeves...). His career continued on the ACT label with the albums Jazz Is a Spirit (2002) and Structure with Greg Osby (2004), followed by More to Say... (2009). In 2011, she embarks on a major project called The Mosaic and teaches at Berklee College of Music.
