Originally from Malta, Cisco Fereira started out as a sound engineer for Adonis and Larry Heard. His own tracks date back to the new-beat period with "The Project" (1988), "Cisco Fereira" on Fragile and several EPs on R&S. Colin Mc Bean arrived in London as a stylist for streetwear brands and a reggae DJ influenced by the Studio One label. They met in 1990 at a party in the Netherlands, recorded with Keith from Bang The Party under the name KCC and were resident DJs at Confusion parties. Their first EPs sounded garage with female vocals on the Shelter Rec, Junior Boy's Own and Azuli labels. They gradually evolved into a powerful, funky techno resolutely oriented towards the dancefloor, and took the name The Advent in 1994 to show that their music was "to come" and "future". After numerous live performances and EPs on their own Kombination Research label and on prestigious labels such as Tresor, Colin Mac Bean decided to return to the more funky-house style he continued to play as a DJ, while Cisco Fereira continued The Advent's underground adventure.
