The Archies are a fictional band formed in 1968 as part of the animated TV series The Archie Show. Composed behind the screen of real musicians, including singer Ron Dante, The Archies were one of the best-known bands of the bubblegum rock wave, which, between 1968 and 1972, opposed the more assertive rock of The Doors or Janis Joplin. The Archies went down in history with the 1969 hit "Sugar Sugar " and, to a lesser extent, the song "Jingle Jangle ", released the same year. Another curiosity about the band is that their records were often distributed in cereal boxes, reflecting their teenage target audience. The Archies ceased to exist in 1972, after the release of their last album This Is Love (1971).
