The Armory Show

British post-punk/new wave band formed in 1983, The Armoury Show brought together musicians from emblematic bands of the punk and new wave scene: singer Richard Jobson was a member of Skids, guitarist John McGeoch of Siouxsie & the Banshees and Magazine with bassist Russell Webb and drummer John Doyle. On the strength of this experience, the band joined the new synthetic new wave movement and produced just one album, Waiting for the Floods (1985, No. 57 in the charts), featuring the singles "Castles in Spain" (No. 69), "We Can Be Brave Again" (No. 66), "Sense of Freedom" and "Glory of Love". After a tour, two more singles and a change of musicians, the band disbanded in 1988 and Jobson recorded the solo album Badman. In 2019, he and other members resurrected the band, renamed The Armory Show after New York's famous modern art exhibition of 1913. The result is the album Dead Souls, released in March 2025 and ranked #11 in the UK vinyl charts.
