Estranged is a Malaysian alt-rock band that launched in Sabah in 2001. Formed by vocalist Rich Gimbang, rhythm guitarist Din Hormatov, bassist Alda Evan Tan, lead guitarist Adzrai Zainal, and drummer Azwin Andy Malik, the band released its debut album, In Hating Memory, in 2004. "Velocity" and "Chocolate Syrup" were both released as singles from the album, although In Hating Memory didn't enjoy mainstream success until 2007, when the album was reissued with a new track list that included the Malay song "Itu Kamu." A contrast to the band's English-language material, "Itu Kamu" was named "Best Song" at the Anugerah Juara Lagu music competition in 2007. One year later, Estranged released its second album, Remain Unknown, which was named "Best Rock Album" at the Anugerah Planet Muzik Awards in 2009. Like the album before it, Remain Unknown was largely written in English. The band didn't record an album of Malay material until 2013's Anugerah Hidup, which featured tracks like "Pengganti," "Baru," and a cover of the Cranberries' mid-1990s hit "Linger." An EP, Sepenuhnya Vol. 1, was released in 2016 and featured an appearance by the Malaysian actress Fazura, who sang on the lead single "Hancur Aku."During the final stretch of the 2010s, Estranged released one-off singles like "Milik Ku" (2018) and "Mau" (2019), then continued this practice during the early 2020s with "Main Bubut" (2021) and "Tari Sumazau" (2022).
