The Geeks is a pioneering hardcore punk band from South Korea, formed in 1999 by Seo Kiseok (vocals) and Kang Junsung (guitar). Inspired by the Korean punk scene introduced through the Our Nation compilation, The Geeks became one of the first Korean punk bands to gain international recognition. Due to Seo’s experience living in America, the band signed with U.S.-based labels such as Think Fast! Records and became the first Korean punk band to successfully tour the United States. Their 2007 world tour expanded their reach, taking them to the U.S., Malaysia, and Singapore. Their lineup includes Seo Kiseok (vocals), Kang Junsung (guitar), Kim Myungjin (guitar), Jung Bongkyu (bass), and Choi Imyoung (drums). Known for their energetic performances and straight-edge roots, The Geeks stood out in Korea’s punk scene by promoting a non-violent, alcohol-free lifestyle in a country where drinking culture is prominent. Though not all members remain straight-edge today, their early stance left a lasting impact. In addition to their music, Seo co-founded Open Your Eyes, a music promotion agency that brought notable international hardcore bands to Korea, and he invested in Powwow, a now-closed live music venue. Despite their members holding full-time jobs, The Geeks have continued to release music, with albums like Every Time We Fall (2007) and Still Not In This Alone (2014), remaining a staple in the international hardcore punk community.
